Constipation in babies is quite common, but it can still be a cause for concern for parents.
It can be caused by a number of factors, such as a change in diet, dehydration and lack of fibre.
When it comes to treating it, there are a number of things you can do according to Medical News Today, like giving them a warm bath, gently moving their legs while they’re lying on their back or as one mum recommends, by activating their ‘poop button.’
Mum and certified massage instructor, Elina Furman, explained how to relieve painful constipation on TikTok where she’s racked up almost one million likes with her parenting hacks, like how to get your baby to sleep through the night.
The CEO of Kahlmi, which specialises in baby massage, claims the technique only takes “seconds” to work, in a video that has been viewed almost 90,000 times, which she boldly captioned: “You won’t believe how fast they poop.”
Here, she explains that massaging certain areas on the feet correspond to certain organs.
The hack is all about gently pushing down on a few pressure points on the baby’s body as she demonstrates a gentle but firm rubbing motion on the sole of the foot.
Speaking in the clip, she says: “First with reflexology just rub across the small intestine and the large intestine, then make small circles in the middle of the foot.”
This technique, according to Elina, will “energise” the large and small intestine, and in turn, help alleviate constipation.
The infant massage instructor also said that parents may need to spend more time massaging the area on some babies than others.
According to Redbook, experts also say the ‘poop button’ can help to relieve you of period cramps and stomach aches.
